Today, United stopped charging extra for interisland legs on an award ticket, making United miles a whole lot more valuable for mileage redemptions to Hawaii.
And now, with the free excursionist perk, you can tag on a third interisland leg!
To find this award space, use the multi-city award search on United.com.
What were awards like before today?
Let’s say you originate from the East Coast, to Honolulu, with a nice stop in Maui.
It would cost 22.5K miles in coach, or 40K miles in first class to Honolulu.
The leg to Maui costs another 6k miles, and then another 6k back to Honolulu.
And an additional 22.5K miles in coach or 40K miles in first back home.
This would equal in total at least 57K miles per person.
As of today, the burden of that price is a bit less, and every little bit helps when you play the miles and points game! Now, you can visit TWO Hawaiian Islands in one trip, with three interisland flights for a total of 45K miles in coach, and 80K miles in First Class!
In total, this saves you 12k miles for Coach and First Class.
Travel on, folks!
